We’re excited to share that our Pearson House project has taken out top honours in the Heritage & Adaptive Reuses category at the Property Council New Zealand Awards!
Pearson House is a stunning 100-year-old, Category 1 heritage-listed building in Parnell, and it was a privilege to be trusted with its transformation. What used to be outdated office space is now a bright, modern community hub and library – all while holding tight to the building’s rich history.
This project came with its fair share of challenges: working on a live site, removing asbestos, and undertaking a full seismic upgrade. One of the most memorable moments? The careful deconstruction and rebuild of the original chimney – each brick was sent to Christchurch, replicated using the original skin, and then craned back into place. It was a true labour of love.
A huge shoutout to the team who made it happen:
Kirk Bakker – for steering the ship
Scott McNaughton – our on-the-ground pro making sure everything ran smoothly
Jamie Merrick – for keeping the numbers in check and the project on budget
We also worked closely with heritage architects Salmond Reed and the amazing team at Auckland Council. It really was a team effort from start to finish.
Winning this award is a proud moment for us – not just because of the recognition, but because Pearson House now has a new lease on life, ready to serve the community for generations to come.
