Pearson House
Auckland / September 2023
C3 Construction was proud to lead the full refurbishment of Pearson House, a Category 1 heritage-listed building situated within the Parnell Library precinct. This significant project transformed the 100-year-old structure from an office space into a revitalised community centre and library, blending modern functionality with careful heritage preservation.
Working collaboratively with heritage architects Salmon Reed and multiple stakeholder groups, including Auckland Council’s heritage team, C3 successfully delivered the project on time and under budget, despite the complex challenges of working within a live public environment and a highly sensitive heritage site.
Key aspects of the project included extensive asbestos removal, a full seismic upgrade, and the meticulous restoration of heritage features. Notably, the building’s original brick chimneys were dismantled brick by brick, sent to Christchurch for the fabrication of replica chimneys using the original brick skins, and then returned to Auckland for precision crane installation—showcasing an exceptional level of craftsmanship and coordination.
Pearson House now stands as a revitalised community asset, combining the integrity of its historic character with a new purpose that will serve future generations.
